Course Overview

This course is all about learning practical, immediately useful and usable, defensive cross-country skiing in the back-country. Over the 2-days you will learn to recognise the terrain, slope angles, slope aspects and snow layers that are most at risk from avalanches. We will teach you how to read snow-pack stability; consider weather implications; access local avalanche forecasts; perform basic rescues; and select appropriate routes through the back country to avoid trouble and stay safe.
